The coaching section is here to help coaches help their athletes to perform their best.  The best resource for coaches is the website for the National Coaches Certification Program, found at http://www.coach.ca. Additional resources may come from other coaches, websites or from certified professionals.  If you have a request for information or have a recommendation please contact the AAWA at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

This is also the section where you can contact other coaches in your area as coaching mentors.  Coaching mentors are experienced coaches who have agreed to help newer coaches.  These coaches have had a long history of wrestling in Alberta with a high performance record.

Coaching Training & Certification

The Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association recommends that all coaches undergo the NCCP coaches training and certification to ensure the safety of the athletes.  These courses are designed to promote well-being in sport and to provide a safe environment for wrestlers in Alberta.  This is a combination of techniques, ethics, best-practices and practical information.  In wrestling there are 2 types of NCCP training.

1: NCCP Certification:

This includes the NCCP Parts A&B, Level III, IV and V courses taught and evaluated by learning facilitators, evaluators and master learning facilitators.  For any coach wishing to develop a national-level team a NCCP parts A&B certification must be completed and evaluated.   Until you have completed the ethics portion and the evaluation by  an evaluator you will not be eligable to coach at a national championships.  For the Canada Games and Western Canada Games an NCCP level III certification is required. These courses are generally taught at the Rocky Mountain Wrestling Camp each year in Jasper, Alberta.

2: Community Coach certification:

This is a basic certification that will allow coaches to coach at any provincial level tournament in Alberta.  This will also be suitable for coaches wishing to coach the Alberta Winter Games.  This is a basic highlight of techniques, theory, practical and ethical topics.  This is generally taught at the Coaches Super Weekend in October.
