The AAWA has been recognizing outstanding contributors, coaches, officials and volunteers whose time and energy support the growth of amateur wrestling in Alberta.

The Outstanding Contributor Award recognizes individuals within the sport who have demonstrated leadership qualities, service to any wrestling group or association and community leadership within wrestling for the past year.

The Long Term Service Award recognizes the long term contribution, leadership and abilities of individuals to the development of wrestling. These individuals must have been retired a minimum of two years.

The Volunteer Service Award recognizes those individuals who dedicate many hours of volunteer labor to Alberta wrestling but are neither coaches nor officials.

The Outstanding Official Award recognizes excellence in officiating and the winner is selected by the Official’s Association.

At our AGM in June 2009, the following people were acknowledged for their contributions in 2008:

  • Bill Dowbiggan- Long Term Service Award - Edmonton
  • Kelly Rich - Long Term Service Award - Edmonton
  • Tom Inkster - Long Term Service Award - Calgary
  • Greg Duxbury - Outsanding Contributor Award - Grande Prairie
  • Shirley Wong - Outstanding Volunteer Award - University of Calgary Wrestling Club
  • Mike Drought - Outstanding Official Award - Edmonton
