Every year the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association and the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Officials Association join together to ensure that our referee's are among the best in the country. The AAWA and AAWOA spend countless hours developing our officials to operate at the highest levels and to ensure that our athletes are getting the environment they need to ensure the best possible environment to compete in. Perhaps even more impressive is that this year there as many women promoted in their national rankings as men. Here is a synopsis of our upgrates:
This year the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association is pleased to announce some changes to the Junior Olympics tournament format. This year the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association's Junior Olympics has been changed to two regional events, one in the North and one in the South for Elementary through Bantam athletes. The focus this year is less on "winning" and competition, and more on athlete development. This is an exciting development aimed at developing the skills of wrestlers province-wide in a non-competitive environment.
There will still be a competition element to the new program, and all the athletes will get an opportunity to wrestle live matches. In addition to the matches, however, there will be skill development throughout the entire group at all ages. Coaching and training will be provided to all athletes in attendance. The Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association is working hard to find new opportunities to develop new skills and abilities in athletes across the province. This is an exciting opportunity where emphasis will be on skills learned and developed, something all of our athletes can benefit from.
